Selected using the bottom toolbar button in Beyond:

TCP gives you all the protections of handshaking on the Ethernet link between Beyond and each FB4. In the event of packet loss the packets will be retried. This could result in stuttering or laggy moments on congested networks.

Turbo uses UDP, which is fire each packet and forget. Super fast, but there is no checking the FB4 got it successfully and retyring if it didn’t.

Which is best?

This is similar to the TCP or UDP for VOIP telephone calls question, but with a key difference. You can argue that UDP is best in that if a packet didn’t make it for some reason then does it matter if the next one appears and does make it. Better to stay 100% live 100% max speed than have potential for pauses in conversation / laser frame updates.

However on a good lasers network you’re not crossing the internet, not crossing routers through networks with different traffic, you’re on your own carefully planned network with just the kit you want to control. On this network it shouldn’t be congested so you can also argue that TCP is just fine/better because there shouldn’t be any packet loss and if there is then it should be able to rectify itself with a resend very quickly and ensure everything absolutely definitely does get through.
