A scene in rekordbox lighting is a programmed lighting sequence, based on a 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 beat timeline.
A scene is assigned to each section of a track, and the available sections are based on the “mood” setting of High, Mid and Low
High mood has these song sections available to be defined:
INTRO1, INTRO2, UP1, UP2, UP3, CHORUS1, CHORUS2, DOWN, OUTRO1, OUTRO2
Mid mood has these song sections available to be defined:
INTRO, VERSE1, VERSE2, VERSE3, VERSE4, VERSE5, VERSE6, CHORUS, BRIDGE, OUTRO
Low mood has these song sections available to be defined:
INTRO, VERSE1, VERSE2, CHORUS, BRIDGE, OUTRO
The same programmed lighting scene can be used for multiple sections as desired. Editing a scene will edit everywhere it has been assigned (you don’t need to re-assign it to where it is used).
Given that the moods have different section assignments, it seems that you should stick with the mood rekordbox has chosen for a track, can’t see anything in the rekordbox documentation regarding this to confirm that though š
So you’ve got a total of 26 track sections available that you can assign lighting scenes too.
Banks
Lastly you’ve got what rekordbox call “bank”. There are the following banks: Cool / Natural / Hot / Subtle / Warm / Vivid / Club1 / Club2
When rekordbox analyses a new track it will assign it to the default bank named Cool. If you left all your tracks playing as Cool things are going to get pretty boring, because you are likely playing tracks that are either Mid or High mood and are therefore going to have the same lighting look for every track. The point of banks is that you should change bank throughout a show to bring variety to your lighting.
When you select a new bank you select a completely new set of moods and song sections. So in total you have 26 track sections split across the 3 moods, and 8 banks of them giving you 208 standard programmable scenes in total. Actually you can create more and assign specific lighting scenes to individual tracks, but assuming you’re just going to use the standard pre-programmed setup that’s what you have.
In reality you’re unlikely to have tracks using the Low mood for typical dance music, most are going to be High with some as Mid. High and Mid have 20 song sections between them, giving you 160 standard programmable scenes you’ll actually use.
The point of banks is to totally change the look of the lighting. New colours selected, different chase sequences, etc. Within the song sections for a particular bank+mood you’ll be wanting to keep things kinda similar, just changed up a bit, so the lighting has a similar feeling throughout a track, but changes a bit as the track sections change.
